WALL ART – DECALS

WHY WOULD I WANT TO USE A WALL DECAL?

Wall decals are a quick and easy way to decorate your home without damaging your walls with hooks or paint. Asides from walls, they can be placed to any smooth, not-porous surface; including windows, doors, mirrors, furniture, etc.

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE FOR YOUR WALL ART DECALS?

We use a high quality matte PVC-Free German eco-film. We decided to avoid vinyl because it contains toxic PVC which is not only bad for the health of your little ones but also is less eco-friendly than the new eco products.

The eco film and the eco over laminate which protects the printed film are both PVC-free and the most new and high quality materials we have found. They are materials fabricated in the European Union by the well-known brand 3M, they are the most sustainable and healthy materials you can choose today on the market. These new graphic materials from 3M offer leading-edge technology, best-in-class performance and an edge on sustainability. Of course common Vinyl is a cheaper option, but our health and the planet is not meant to be treated the cheap way. Don´t you think so?

Learn more about our decision to go for the most eco and healty solution with PVC-free materials.

CAN I USE THE WALL DECALS IN ANY WALLS?

Our decals will stick to any wall as long as it is smooth and not super porous. We do not recommend to apply them on bumpy, rough or textured walls such as stucco or eggshell painted surfaces. Bumpy walls will create pockets of air in between the sticker and the wall, thus interfere with the sticker adhering. They are also not recommended for brick or non-painted cement surfaces. Bubbles and Bubbles® is not responsible if graphics applied to a bumpy texture do not stick.

We offer the highest quality wall decals, not only the wall decal is made with the newest and most eco-friendly materials but also it goes with a non-PVC Overlaminate for enhanced scratch resistance and UV protection. This protection makes you wall art easy to clean and durable because it has been designed for use indoors and out, for signs, walls, windows, floors and even partial vehicle wraps. However, we recommend to use them only indoors because the sticker material may be affected by harsh weather conditions. The colors may fade of strong sun exposure or rain.

HOW EASY IS TO INSTALL THE WALL ART?

Our wall art is made from the highest quality PVC-free films which not only are the best eco solution but also incorporates air release channels and slideability (3M™ Controltac™ technology) for quick and easy, time-saving installation.

IS THE WALL DECAL STICKER REMOVABLE?

Of Course! They are easily removable by lifting the top edge corner with your fingertips and peeling the stickers in a downward motion at a 45 degree angle.

CAN I CLEAN THE WALL DECAL ONCE IT IS INSTALLED?

Yes! You can gently wipe your wallpaper with a dry cloth.

However, excessive harsh scrubbing or chemical cleaner may damage the surface. We are not responsible for any damage that may occur to your wall decal due to cleaning.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY WALL WORKS WITH WALL DECALS?

If you are not sure of whether the decal will work in your wall or not you can test out your wall with a simple small piece of masking or washi tape. The masking tape has a very low-tack adhesive, and usually works as a good indicator if the decals will stick or not.

CAN YOU STICK WALL DECALS ON NEWLY PAINTED WALLS?

Yes but you have to allow at least 30 days on newly painted surfaces. It should be completely dry or bubbles can occur if the paint is still out-gassing.

Please note that some of the new new Non-VOC paints might contain small amounts of silicone and thus not work very well with anything sticky. You can always test your wall with a simple piece of masking tape, if it sticks then our decals will too.

CAN I USE WALL DECALS IN THE BATHROOM OR KITCHEN?

Absolutely! As long as you keep them out of direct contact with water, our fabric stickers and wall decals are prefect for bathroom and kitchen use. The stickers can be applied to mirrors, glass surfaces and tiles.

Make sure the bathroom or kitchen has the walls completely dry, do not shower or create humidity 3hours before applying the wall decal, and leave it dry until 3 hours after to make sure the wall art is well sitck.

HOW DO I CLEAN THE SURFACE BEFORE APPLYING MY WALL DECAL?

Use a warm, damp cloth or sponge to clean the wall surface or window and allow it to completely dry before applying your sticker or decal.

CAN I INSTALL YOUR WALL DECALS ON WALLPAPER?

You can, but we recommend not to. There is always a risk that the wallpaper will peel off when removing the decal.

HOW LONG CAN I KEEP THE WALL DECAL BEFORE INSTALLING IT?

We recommend installing the decal within at least within a couple months of purchase. Some variables such as temperature or light may affect the properties of the application tape that is on top of the vinyl, making it harder to apply later. If you plan on waiting, it’s best to store the decals in a cool, dark and dry place until application.

I LIVE IN A RENTED APARTMENT, WILL YOUR WALL DECALS LEAVE RESIDUE WHEN REMOVED?

Technically not. Our wall decals allow a residue-free removal for up to 2 years. However, be aware that if applied to very old walls or furniture, the paint may peel off upon removal if the paint was already flaky or in poor condition. Always take care to make sure that your wall is suited for decals before installation.

HOW LONG WILL THE WALL DECALS LAST ON MY WALLS?

We made the wall decals with the most high-quality materials so if left alone they can last for years!

IS THE WALL DECAL MATERIAL FIRE CERTIFIED?

Meets the fire certification requirements of EN45545-2 (Rail) and EN13501-1 (Buildings), making it suitable for a wide range of indoor use.

SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY

ELIMINATION OF CHEMICALS OF CONCERN

The materials we use were designed to exclude certain chemicals of concern, without sacrificing high performance. In fact, these new products, which are non-PVC and do not contain any added chlorine or other halogens, exceed most current high performance characteristics.

What is the Problem with PVC and those Chemicals of concern?

"Chemicals of concern" can be chemicals widely used in the manufacturing of many products. They can be regulated or not, but are typically believed to pose a potential health or environmental concern.

Halogens, like fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine, have traditionally been used as the foundation of plastics. For example, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) films are typically very stable, durable and long lasting. These are all highly desirable attributes for long-term graphic materials. As a point of reference, halogens are also found in flame retardants, like PBDE.

The issue with halogenated plastics occurs during disposal. If the material is incinerated, the halogen is freed from the plastic structure. During the incineration process, halogens, which are highly reactive, react with any available water (a byproduct of incineration) to form very strong acids, like HCl and HF. To prevent these byproducts from going into the atmosphere, the incineration stack must have special scrubbers that limit halogen release and also require certain chemicals to neutralize the material. These chemicals then become hazardous waste. Adding to the issues, the incineration of halogenated materials can be costly.

So, just what does "no added chlorine or other halogens" really mean?

It means that the industry has found a way to develop these products without intentionally adding certain chemicals of concern to them.

The Concern about Phthalates

You'll be glad to know that our materials (film and laminate) are phthalate-free. Dialkyl ortho-phthalates, or just phthalates for short, are a family of chemicals traditionally used in the PVC industry as plasticizers to make films more flexible. This family of chemicals--especially DBP, BBP, DEHP, DINP, DNOP, and DIDP--is becoming more regulated globally due to potential health concerns associated with them.

Although these kind of graphic materials are intended for commercial and industrial markets, it is interesting to note that in the US, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) regulates these phthalates in children's products. In the EU (European Union), several phthalates are listed as REACH Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs).

Decrease in Solvent Usage

Cast vinyl gets its name from the manufacturing process used to make these films. This process uses solvents, some of which are known to have environmental and health concerns. The new Films we use are a high-performance non-PVC polymer, not a cast vinyl. This means that during the manufacturing process, it is used 60% less solvent. By decreasing the solvent usage, we are reducing the exposure to these chemicals by the workers at the manufacturing facility.

Bio-Based Materials

The 2002 US Farm Bill describes biobased products as commercial or industrial products (other than food or feed) that are composed in whole, or in significant part, of biological products, renewable agricultural materials (including plant, animal, and marine materials), or forestry materials.

Many chemicals, including plastics, are primarily made from carbon. Although carbon is a very abundant element, graphic films are traditionally based on carbon from fossil fuels, like petroleum. By switching to using bio-based materials, the carbon is from a renewable resource rather than petroleum.

Our materials contain 10% or greater bio-based materials by weight, another step forward on our product sustainability journey.
